The 3 R's
The three R's are Rigor, Reflectiveness, and Relevance
Rigor: The different parts in the reading are complex and that the reader is challenged. A text can challenge a reader on many different levels including meaning, structure, language. knowledge, demands, and cultural/literary knowledge.
Reflectiveness: Whether the reader can see his or her self in the text
Relevance: The text's ability to connect to the concerns and interests of the reader

Driving Question
How can we, as members of an honors-level English 10 class, determine whether a contemporary piece of fiction is rigorous, relevant, and reflective of our cultural identity and experience to be added to our district's reading list?
